This might mean leaving work by 4:30 every day to have dinner with your family or taking an hour lunch break to take a jog. Whatever you come up with, make a list for important professional goals and for important personal goals.
- Record your usual schedule. For one week, keep an hourly log of everything you do without changing anything. Whether you’re showering, browsing Facebook or working on a project, write down what you’re doing with every hour of your day for seven days.
- After you’ve written a list of what you need and you’ve kept a log of what you do, compare the two. Do you make time for the things that are important to you? Do you spend unnecessary hours doing things that didn’t make the list, like social media browsing?
- Make a schedule. Using the same hourly format, make a schedule that allows you to do what you want to do and eliminates time wasters. Update this schedule weekly for a month until you find balance.
