Shane Lowney never realized his boyhood dream of being a fighter pilot, but he did earn a license to fly his Cessna 182 in the skies near his home in Tampa Bay, Florida. A mechanical engineer with over 14 years of experience working for a local engineering company in Tampa and a freelance business owner, Lowney doesn’t have much time to fly, but when he does, he loves his journeys skyward in the Cessna 182. Lowney takes his wife Catherine for pleasure cruises through the sky whenever they both have a free minute at every opportunity.
Shane Lowney loves the feeling that his zippy Cessna 182 gives him in the sky. The Cessna 182 was originally developed and introduced by the company, based in Wichita, Kansas, in 1956. By then, Cessna was known for making high-quality small utility aircraft. The 182 model was meant to by a tricycle gear variant of the Cessna 180, an earlier model. The 182 and the 182A, or Skylane model were both very popular at the time and soon the company started to introduce newer models with improvements such as a wider fuselage, swept tailfin, and a rear window. These new features hit the market, more people like Shane Lowney discovered their love of flying all over again.
Shane Lowney takes his Cessna 182 out for a spin whenever he can, taking his wife along with him. They both love the easy handling and smooth ride the Cessna gives them every time they take it out for a fly-by. The Lowneys routinely find themselves high above their home in Tampa Bay most weekends when they take their beloved aircraft out for regular spins.
